I took part in exhibitions and residencies in Europe and Asia before returning to work with clay, the medium of my very first creations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-GB\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In 2015 I learned the craft of ceramics from<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">an Italian production potter. I had been working with clay for many years making models for sculptures and installations and I was immediately fascinated by both the practice of creating on the potter\u2019s wheel and by mediterranean glazing techniques.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-GB\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I set up my own studio and continued to deepen my understanding of ceramic techniques and history. Wheel throwing and hand-building are an essential part of my practice. The medium of clay has become a way for me to engage with research and experimentation. Studying historical ceramics is a continuous part of this process that manifests itself in my hand-built vessels, figurines and small editions of daily ware. Collages and drawings are also part of this process and some of them become works in their own right.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-GB\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In my ongoing project <em>Being a Vessel<\/em> I am self-consciously inspired by a constellation of artists, architects, and designers. This work is rooted in my need to carry their creative life with me beyond the exhibitions or publications I have seen. What started as a way to create personalized reminders of these figures by translating their work in to my own visual language has become an in -depth (ever evolving) research into the notion of artistic ancestry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-GB\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Unfolding from my interaction with forms, materials and colours <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><a style=\"color: #808080;\" href=\"https:\/\/lisameixner.eu\/art\/\"><em>Being a Vessel<\/em><\/a><\/span> is an exploration of what it means to be influenced and inspired.
